Tugboat Captain perishes after entering icy water without immersion suit
Posted by Customer Care on
On March 15, the Associated Press reported that a tugboat working near Fire Island was on it's way back to home port in Bayonne, New Jersey when it quickly began sinking. Three crew members managed to don immersion suits before entering the 37 degree water. The tugboat Captain jumped in without donning his suit. The three crew members were rescued and treated for hypothermia but the Captain did not survive. His body was recovered hours later.
